Less Wishing & Wanting, More Doing
Hi friends!
It’s been a minute since I’ve written, and honestly, I’ve felt a bit guilty about falling out of the habit this past month. One of my intentions for 2025 was to post here once a week—twice a month at minimum—something I stuck to pretty effortlessly through the winter. But then spring arrived, and with it came an exciting new experience I’d been dreaming about for a while. I finally decided to stop just wanting to do it and actually do it.
That shift—from wishing to acting—is what’s been on my mind lately. So today, I want to talk about the power of following through on the things we say we want, instead of letting them sit on the “someday” shelf.
I wholeheartedly believe we’re always in the driver’s seat of our own lives. We have so much more power than we often give ourselves credit for—especially when it comes to going after our dreams and taking meaningful action. How often do you find yourself saying, “When X happens, then I’ll be able to do Y”? For example, “When I’ve been at this company for three years, then I can go for that promotion.”
Sure, that might be partially true from a logistical standpoint—but what can you do today to move closer to that goal? How can you get even 1% closer through the actions you take right now?
Every year, I like to kick things off with intention-setting and—shocker—vision boarding. Yes, I am absolutely a Pinterest girly (no surprises there). One thing that’s been on my vision board for years? Fitness. It’s always been a big part of my life. My daily workout is something I genuinely look forward to. And, over time, I’ve found myself inspired by incredible women in the fitness and wellness space—Sami Clarke, Melissa Wood Tepperberg, Megan Roup, and so many other powerhouse instructors who are out here building wellness empires.
For the longest time, I’d say to myself, “I’d love to do that someday.” And eventually, I realized that the “someday” mindset was really rooted in fear—fear of failing, fear of the unknown, fear of doing something completely new. But fear keeps us stuck. It keeps us in the wanting, not in the doing.
And the truth is, I’m a doer. Not just a wisher or a wanter.
So, I decided 2025 would be the year I became a Pilates instructor. And I’m proud to share that over the past two months, that’s exactly what I’ve been working toward. I’ve spent countless hours sweating on my mat—learning, training, practicing, and teaching.
Have I had moments of doubt? Of course. Thoughts like, “What if I’m not good enough?” or “There are already so many amazing instructors in NYC—will anyone even want to take my classes?” Absolutely. I’m human. Self-doubt and imposter syndrome creep in like they do for so many of us. But I’ve also done the work—and I am actively doing the work every day. I remind myself constantly that I can do anything I set my mind to.
One of the mantras I often write in my journal is: “The universe has my back and wants me to succeed.” I know that might sound a little woo-woo to some, but truly—I believe it works.
This Monday, I’m teaching my final “test-out” class to complete my certification. And starting next weekend, I’ll be teaching at a studio in my hometown on weekends this summer. I can now officially say: I’m a Pilates instructor. Something I once wished and hoped for… is now real. It’s mine. It’s me.
And I know this is just the beginning of a beautiful new chapter—one filled with growth, challenges, opportunities, continuous learning, and so much joy. I believe that with my whole heart, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead.
So, if you’ve been waiting for a sign—this is it. Go for that thing you’ve been wishing for. The one that’s been sitting on your “someday” shelf. Don’t let fear of the unknown, of change, or of failure keep you from chasing your dreams.
Start today. Start small. Take it one step at a time. And before you know it, you’ll be amazed by how far you’ve come.
All my love,
Rach
